Louisiana Protest

To hear about the situation in Louisiana blew my mind. Its hard to believe that in one century white people could be malicious and have so much hatred towards the blacks (and it be fine), but then when 6 blacks attack one white boy the whole town will fight against them. No one stopped to help any of the 9 at Little Rock when they were being attacked. The 9 were attacked by not only the students, the whole town! This one white boy was only being beat by SIX people! It doesnt make it right to do, but the 9 had a whole town against them doing everything violent, and there wasnt anything thought to be wrong. If it was vice versa and 9 white teens were being picked on, everyone would know about it, and everyone would fight to stop it.

Topic 11 Study Guide

MLK and Civil Disobedience- Martin Luther King Jr believed that if someone hits you, never hit back. If you hug them, it will have a better impact then lowering to their level.

Power of the "Mob"- If there is more than one person, it is most likely easier to complete your mission. On the opposite side, it is much easier to destroy an organization with violence.

Plessy v. Ferguson vs. Brown v. Board of Education- This deals with Brown's daughter not being able to go to the closest school to where they lived because it was a "white" school. So she'd have to she'd have to travel just to get to class on a daily basis. Brown's argument was they should have the right to go to each school and attacked the law of "separate but equal." Brown's argument was accounted for and became a law, although each school could have as much time as they wanted to become segregated.

Civil Rights Goals- To end segregation and make everything EQUAL and NOT separated.

Eisenhower’s Role in Little Rock- He called in the military to help the 9 enter the school without harm. This process was against the orders of Orvill Faubus and the National Gaurd

Chavez and the United Farm Workers- Chavez organized two strikes, boycotted grapes, and was anti-immigration. He fought for the Mexican-American's rights

FHA and ADA- FHA is the Fair Housing Act. This act outlaws refusal to sell a home because of race, color, etc. ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act. This act provides facilities for the disabled americans. For example, ramps instead of stairs, larger bathrooms, shorter water fountains, etc.

Purpose of Filibusters- To convince others to fight for what is right and what they believe in. When Martin Luther King Jr made his remarkable speech, many people became followers on his views on the situation.

Sit-Ins and Other Protests- The sit-ins were when any person (not only african americans) would sit down, pick up and menu, and wait to be served. If they werent served, they would just sit there while people would throw stuff at them. The Montgomery Boycott was when the blacks refused to ride any bus. They would carpool or walk before spend a dime to ride in the back of the bus.

I Am*Proudly One Of The Little Rock Nine

I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine
I wonder how it would feel to be a white student
I hear them talking about my skin color
I see the other eight trembling in fear
I want to be accepted
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine

I pretend that what they say doesn't effect me
I feel the segregation between our races
I need support from my fellow race
I worry that school will never be safe
I cry only when I am in the protection of my own home
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine

I understand the past
I believe it should change
I dream we will one day be harmonious
I try to ignore the hatred
I hope they will soon accept me
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine

Role of Women during WWII- Took over the men's jobs while they were away at war. When the men returned from the war the women returned to thier old lifestyle because the men took back their jobs.

2. Battleships could not be armed (US)
3. Americans could not travel on ships of countries at war.

Rationing- Saving everyday items to help the men at war for further reasons. Examples would be to drive slow to save your tires and never leave any food left over.

Results of World War II-
The Jewish population decreased because of the aftermath of the Holocaust, Radiation in Japan because of out dropping of the Atomic Bomb, Debt through out Europe, and the "Baby Boom" that caused the growth of population in our country.

Testimony Review

After watching the videos of two Holocaust survivors, I had mixed emotions. While watching George Gottlieb, I had the chills and felt like I could start crying with him. I found it strange that the Nazi's even let him and his brother find their mother. At first it made me think the Nazi's actually have a heart, but then when Gottlieb pointed out that they only had 20 minutes, my view on the Nazi's went back down to scrum. Can you imagine what you would do with only 20 minutes? I cant. The other video I watched was of Helen Fagin. She was a survivor of a Ghetto. She explained that their living spaces where very limited. If I would have a place to live without being killed, even if it was a small with limited space, I would live there. Fagin said she taught her little sister so she could actually have some education, and I found that so loving. The ghettos brought them all together, literal and figural.

CleanMyWater Show'n'Tell

This photo shows a container of WWII Army USAAF Water Purification Tablets. These tablets were used by the soldiers while they were on duty. Clean, Purified, water was very hard to find in the countries they were fighting in, so they would fill their canteens with unclean water. Because it was the last resort, they would drop these tablets in the water. Each tablet held chlorine bleach, which would be the ingredient to "purify" the water.

Teach The Past!

Dear Principal,

What the educators in my past have been teaching is very factual and beneficial. I have learned a lot from them and value the education. Fortunately, I have a teacher this year who has branched out of the "box" to teach me about the not so "text booky" material. Unfortunately, the material isnt censored, so we must get into some complicated and brutal events.
Have you ever heard of the "Raping of Nanjing"? Most adults and students are unaware of this event, even though it is one of the biggest attacks in world history. Over 250,000 Chinese residents were killed against their will in forceful matters. 20,000 women were raped in the attack. "There probably is no crime that has not been committed in this city today." -Minnie Vautrin
Bosnia-Herzegovina. This was an act of violence within their own country. Men and women were separated and taken away on buses to be raped or killed instantly.

After learning about these historical events I became very interested on if there were more we have not learned about. The world has had so many other violences that we are oblivious to, and we need to teach more of this in school.

Weekly Article Sacco And Vanzetti

From the evidence and the chronology, it appears that the police were out to get Sacco and Vanzetti, because of their anarchist political views. The evidence found at the scene which supposedly links Sacco and Vanzetti to the crime is hardly enough for conviction. The cap which was found and is said to have belonged to Sacco did no fit while he was on the stand. Also, the Buick which they were driving was only suspected to be used in the crime. Besides the tire tracks that hundreds of cars have, and the coloring, there is no evidence linking the vehicle to the crime.
Also, the witnesses of the crime could not positively identify Sacco and Vanzetti one hundred percent. It's obvious that the so called witnesses jumped on the bandwagon after the trial became public. The defendants were often questioned about their political views, even though they were not relevant to the crime. This points to the idea that the prosecution was merely using this to pick on the jury's fears of an un-American was of life.
The defenses ballistics reports also came to the conclusion that 'bullet number 3' could not have been fired from the Colt that belonged to Sacco. The trial contained evidence that came across cross-contamination by onlooker on the scene, and unprofessional interrogation. Much of the evidence has been used even though it is insufficient.

Scopes Trial

Religion vs. Evolution.

From attending a catholic school in elementary school to attending a public school in middle/high school gives different views on this situation. When I was little, I didn't know about the "other public" schools. So, when I was learning about my religion in a class I thought nothing of it. Then I switched to a public school when I had no classes set aside for church and was a little confused.
I believe every person has the right to have their own belief on how we were created and arrived on Earth. Because I have already been taught Religion, I don't find it a bad subject to teach. Although, I would not feel comfortable learning about evolution because of my previous teachings.
To play it save, I think that there should not be any teachings because it could cause controversy towards students and teachers beliefs.
